“Buried” is spoken word piece written and performed by myself and my boy Gabe Katz. This poem in part, is a lament to God about struggles in life that we try to bury but find themselves resurrecting all ares of our life, the other part is that this piece also shines light on how we are flawed and imperfect but presented perfectly to God through Christ. This was part of a poetry video series I lead at Epiphany Fellowship Brooklyn
This piece is interesting because it kind of broke the rust off of myself and Gabe. It’s been a while since either of us had written or performed any poetry (a whole lot longer for Gabe) but there was something special about how it all came about. Gabe, who hadn’t written poetry in years, came to me and wanted to do a joint piece with me, so I agreed, Gabe wrote his parts I wrote mine, and beauty was formed. This was one the hardest poems I’ve had to write because it comes from such a personal place.
